Overview and Scrutiny - training and support from SEE

Overview and Scrutiny is at the heart of the councillor's role as an elected representative. It is the function which the majority of members will be engaged in, providing the power to hold the executive to account and a duty to review policies and public services on behalf of the public.

Whether you are directly involved or not, every councillor will be affected by the work of Overview and Scrutiny. SEE is a leading provider of training and expertise around Overview and Scrutiny. We are here to help councillors and also those officers working within this function.

We are currently running the following courses:

We also provide reviews and evaluations of the Overview and Scrutiny function.

"SEE provided a through review and an excellent and helpful report into the Council's scrutiny arrangements. We certainly get value for money" New Forest District Council

The training courses above are purely indicative. Overview and Scrutiny support is usually developed on a bespoke basis delivered by SEE consultants and our accredited Councillor peers.

In addition to our training and consultancy services, we offer advice and information to our member authorities, and run a free Local Democracy and Accountability Network to help support Overview and Scrutiny practitioners across the region.

Furthermore, we offer an Overview and Scrutiny DVD entitled 'What Has Scrutiny Ever Done for Us?'.
