South East Government WARP (SEGWARP)

Councils in the south east can join the SE Government Warning, Advice and Reporting point (SEGWARP) which was launched in August 2009.

SEGWARP is a not for profit service operated by SEE and the University of Wolverhampton and run in partnership with the Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI, a Government Department).

The WARP provides three main services:

  1. Tailored Vulnerability Alerts & Information Security News
  2. Confidential Sharing of Information and Access to Advice
  3. Incident Reporting
GCHQ (GovCERTUK) now have responsibility for Local as well as Central Government Information security and see the WARP as an interface to Local Government. The University of Wolverhampton has developed relationships with other appropriate organisations too (e.g. West Midlands Police HiTech Crime Unit).

Initially, we have concentrated on establishing the provision of warnings, alerts and news (which is mainly via email). The team at the University of Wolverhampton spend 4 - 5 hours each day analysing over 25 sources of the latest information so that our members don't have to.

We will also have a Member Forum which will meet quarterly.

Cost

WARP annual membership is £1,000 for County councils, £750 for Unitary councils and £500 for Districts councils.
