The Councillors Commission

The Councillors Commission was set up in 2007 to look at the incentives and barriers that encourage or deter people from standing for election as councillors.

From your experience of your ward, political group/party and support offered by your council:

  • What do you see as the key barriers that may deter people from standing for council?

  • What can Councils, Political Parties/groups and Government do to attract more people to consider standing for council?

The Government will be responding to the recommendations of the Councillors Commission report in May.
