What people say:

“I and a colleague have been on this programme and it’s excellent …. I would recommend this to all women who have an issue with self esteem or want to reassess their lives… It helped with my assertiveness. Also, I assessed my personal/professional relationship through this event. I still refer back to the workbook and have used it to re-focus my life on many occasions”. Kathy Ogg, HR Manager, Sparsholt College

The award winning Springboard women’s development programme is a 3-month personal development programme that is run nationally. It is not targeted at managers nor necessarily to those aspiring to be managers – it is targeted at individuals who want to change and to self develop. (There is also the Navigator Men’s development programme and we can put you in touch with the providers if interested).

The programme will help you:

  • Value what you have got going for you and build on your strengths

  • Develop the self confidence to make things happen

  • Cope positively with change

  • Be assertive and able to speak for yourself

  • Set and achieve personal goals

  • Reduce stress and become better organised at work and at home

The programme promises to be a great energising project for all participants with the opportunity to forge strong networking links with colleagues in other authorities across the region, all experiencing similar pressures and conflicts.

Springboard covers things like:

  • Knowing yourself

  • Setting goals

  • Promoting a positive image

  • Confidence building

  • Assertiveness

  • Managing change

  • Networking

  • Balancing home and work

  • More energy – less anxiety

  • Interview skills

How does the programme work?

Workshops

The programme consists of four one-day workshops approximately four weeks apart. Please note that participants are required to attend all four workshops. The workshops involve a mixture of large and small group activities, exercises and group discussion as well as guest speakers. There is a lot of interaction and participation. The workshops will be led by Sarah Morgan, who is a qualified Springboard trainer, and has had a wide involvement with the Springboard programme as well as many years experience within Local Government.

Self managed learning

As well as attending four workshops, participants will get a copy of the 300 page Springboard Workbook to use in their own time, in between the workshop sessions. The Workbook contains practical advice, information, exercises and ideas and is a valuable resource long after the programme has finished. Participants will need to make a commitment to set aside a few hours a week to complete the relevant chapters of the workbook in between the workshop days, in order to get the best out of the programme.

Who can attend?

The Springboard programme is open to any woman who wishes to attend, though it is designed with those in non-managerial roles in mind. It is not a management course, though one may find that some of the skills learnt, such as assertiveness or the ability to put yourself across confidently, will be useful for those who are considering a management or supervisory role. The only qualification required is the interest and desire to develop and a willingness to commit some time and energy to the process.

Travel difficulties?

Due to the interest shown from around the region we have selected a central venue. The University of Surrey has proved to be a popular location for a range of our seminars, conferences and open events. It has good access by car or public transport. We can provide full information, parking permits and will also assist in finding car-sharing opportunities.

“I’ve found confidence at work I didn’t know I possessed.”

“Springboard gave me that extra push I needed to achieve more, say more, and have more confidence in myself. A wonderful book, riveting reading, and packed with thought-provoking information on how to make more of myself.”

“This programme offers a revolutionary opportunity to get out of a rut. It shows you what you have suspected and chosen to ignore – that it is up to you. The fence became uncomfortable.”

What people say about Springboard - The Managers

“The Springboard Programme has proved very beneficial to my staff. It has encouraged them to take responsibility for their own lives, to be more positive and to set both personal and work goals.”

“The noticeable improvement in positive attitude, how my staff see themselves and their job and their all round participation is definitely attributed to the Springboard Development Programme.”

“She has a more positive reaction to her job and is better able to control her responsibilities.”

“You get a changed person – not a changed work person.”

“Excellent as a course – it fills a need.”

“I have a different view of her now. She will take a high level of responsibility rather than expect direction and instructions. I feel more confident about giving her responsibility.” “It has helped me in my own workload … I can concentrate on what I need to get done, it has overcome my delegation problem.”

“Other members of the management team have noticed the difference – she is acting more professionally.”

What people say about Springboard - The Managers

“We want to achieve a better balance of males and females at all levels in the workforce and Springboard is one of the actions we’re taking to promote equality. This is a valuable programme and one I’d personally like to endorse.” Douglas Sinclair, Chief Executive, Central Regional Board

“After participating in the Springboard development programme, women perceive themselves to be more confident, self aware, self motivated, assertive and personally powerful. Their managers identified slight improvements in team contribution and attitude to change, but significant improvements in production of constructive ideas, acceptance of responsibility, contributing views, acceptance of constructive criticism and sensitivity to the needs of others.” National Health Service

“Springboard is an excellent, comprehensive and innovative course which has been very well received by both the women who have participated, and managers who have commented on the positive changes in the women’s attitude in general and their behaviour in particular.” Bristol City Council

“The BBC is changing at a rate never previously experienced, and central to this change is the need for individuals to focus on their career and life development. The programme has helped women to do this by empowering them to take control of their development and helping them gain an ‘overview’ of the BBC and their future role within both it, and the industry as a whole.” BBC

“Springboard answered a need within our organisation, i.e. a programme that enabled women (management or non-management) to widen their horizons with increased confidence having recognised their own strengths, abilities and worth.” Anne Watts, OBE – Head of Diversity and Employee Support - HSBC
