Introduction to Scrutiny

This session is designed to identify the ways in which overview and scrutiny can support council and community improvement. You will explore the key role of overview and scrutiny in monitoring and improving performance and be able to lead and respond to community concerns to help shape improved services.

By the end of the workshop, Councillors will be able to:

• identify where scrutiny can add value and how it can have an impact
• understand the importance of member led scrutiny
• appreciate the role of overview and scrutiny ‘upstream’ in driving key improvement activities
• set up a scrutiny work programme and use effective questioning and listening skills to make evidence based recommendations.
