Charter Awards
The authorities below have all been awarded the Charter for Elected Member Development.
South East region
East Sussex Fire Authority
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Authority achieved the Charter for Elected Member Development on the 21 November 2011 and had the award cermony yesterday in Eastborne. Mark Palmer congratulated the Fire Authority on their success and strong commitment to Member Development.
Canterbury City Council
Canterbury City Council were awareded the Charter follwing a very sucessful assessment on the 1 November 2011.
Surrey County Council
Surrey are the latest County to have been awarded the Charter for Elected Member Development. They were successfully awarded on the 25 October 2011.
Kent County Council
Are the first County Council to be awarded the Charter Plus for Elected Member Development in England. Congratulations to Kent! They achieved the Charter Plus on the 22 September 2011.
Elmbridge Borough Council
Elmbridge Borough Council successfully achieved their re assessment against the Charter for Elected Member Development on the 5 September 2011. SEE Chairman, Cllr Rory Love recently presented the Council with their Charter certificate and congratulated them on their award.
Cllr Love said that he had seen a strong committment to Member Development, a culture of Member Development across the organisation and that Elmbridge had a flexible approach to learning and developent.
Rother District Council
A pledge to give its councillors the best training and support has been reaffirmed by Rother District Council.
Rother Article 10 March 2011Bracknell Forest Council
Are the first Council in the South East to have Achieved Charter Plus status. Bracknell Forest achieved the status on the 7 Feb 2011.

Waveney District Council
Have successfully completed their 18 month review and have issued a press release demonstrating the value the Charter holds to their authority.

Rochford District Council
Were awarded the Charter for Elected Member Development in October 2010.
Breckland Council
Were awarded the Charter in November 2008 and re achieve the Charter and the Charter Plus in September 2010.
Hertfordshire County Council
Awarded the Charter in October 2008.
Forest Heath District Council
Awarded the Charter in January 2008.
Broadland District Council
The first council in the Eastern region to be awarded the Charter (March 2007).

The Charter for Elected Member Development in Northern Ireland
Belfast City Council, Strabane District Council, Down District Council and Newry and Mourne District Counil as well as Armagh City and District Council, Banbridge District Council and Craigavon Borough Council have all committed to working towards the Charter for Elected Member Development. SEE will be providing support to them along their journey. The press release emphasises how important the Charter is to members serving their constiuents.

Belfast City Council
Belfast has become the first council in Northern Ireland to be awarded Charter status in recognition of its role in providing development opportunities for politicians.
The Charter for Elected Member Development is being rolled out by the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA), and aims to formally recognise commitment and excellence in ensuring councillors are able to undertake their roles and responsibilities effectively.
Councillor Evelyne Robinson, President of NILGA and The Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile were at the presentation to receive the cetificate.
