Effective Officer-Councillor Relations

This workshop is designed to explore the interface between Officers and Councillors, and provide Councillors with the opportunity to develop their understanding of how to make the most of this unique but naturally complex relationship.

By the end of the workshop, Councillors will be able to:

• describe the key issues and potential areas of conflict surrounding Councillor/ Officer relationships
• understand constructive approaches to developing a positive and productive way of working in a political environment
• understand the impact of trends and changes in local government, including growing impact and importance of partnership working.

The course will consist of some input (around 20-25 minutes) from the facilitator and a number of group discussions and practical exercises. Participants will be encouraged to draw up an action plan to apply some of the skills and knowledge learnt.
