A half day Health and Safety briefing for elected members.

Target audience

Council Leader, Deputies, Leader of Groups, Chair of relevant committees and other members with particular responsibilities and interests in health and safety.

At the end of this course members should:

• understand the scale of financial and human losses associated with accidents, incidents and ill health at work;
• be aware of the key health and safety legislation relating to the authority, including both corporate and individual liability;
• be informed of the latest developments in health and safety, including the 'Sensible Risk Management' initiative, the Corporate manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act and new guidance on leadership;
• be able to support the principles of good health and safety management to work under their control.
