On Thursday NHS Digital published the latest statistics on childhood vaccination coverage in England. While coverage remains strong, there is a further decline for a fifth year for all vaccines measured at 12 months, 24 months and five years and regional variation is seen across the country with rates lowest in London. This decline does not have one obvious single explanation and actions to improve uptake are underway between NHS England, PHE, local government and the Department of Health and Social Care with the promise of a new national vaccination strategy later this year.
In the last 50 years, vaccination has saved more lives than any other medical procedure or product and is the best way to protect ourselves and our loved ones from avoidable harm. Assets from PHE’s Value of Vaccines campaign can be downloaded here.
