The LGA recently published the findings of our survey into councils’ work on modern slavery. The survey highlighted some positive findings among the councils who responded, with around 75 per cent of councils reporting that modern slavery was an agreed priority and that they participated in a local modern slavery partnership. There were also high numbers of councils reporting established referral pathways for raising and responding to modern slavery concerns. The results showed that many councils are still considering the implications of last year’s modern slavery updates to the homelessness code of guidance: a reminder that the LGA guidance for homelessness services on supporting modern slavery victims is available to support your teams with this process.
The LGA are using the survey results to inform an update to the general council guidance on modern slavery, including a maturity matrix to help you assess your own council’s work on this. If you or your teams have any questions or feedback, please email ellie.greenwood@local.gov.uk.
