Tribute to Richard Burrett

01 July 2026 | Sarah Cope

We are deeply saddened to share the news that Richard Burrett, Chair of South East Employers, has passed away.

Richard served firstly as a Representative and then as SEE Chair for a number of years with unwavering commitment, offering steady leadership, thoughtful guidance and a clear sense of purpose. During his time with us, he played a key role in shaping the direction of South East Employers, supporting our work with councils across the region and strengthening our impact for members. The future integration of South East Employers and South East Councils to form LGSE will stand as part of his lasting legacy.

Reflecting on his contribution, former South East Employers Chief Executive Dr Ruth Adams said:

“Councillor Richard Burrett served South East Employers as both a Committee Member and its Chair for 20 years. He supported other Committee Members and team members with commitment and compassion. He will be missed and we are deeply saddened by this news.”

Richard had a genuine passion for public service and collaboration across local government. He was highly respected by colleagues, members and partners alike, and his insight and experience will be greatly missed.

On behalf of South East Employers, we extend our sincere thanks to Richard for his years of dedicated service and leadership. His contribution to the organisation and the wider local government community has been significant and enduring.

Our thoughts are with Richard’s family, friends and all who knew him at this difficult time.
