Who can join SEE?

All county, unitary and district councils and police authorities in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and East and West Sussex can be full members of SEE. Parish and Town councils, voluntary bodies and other organisations engaged in the delivery of local services within our region can be associate members of SEE.

Full MembershipFor Local Authorities in the South East

We offer full membership to local government authorities via an annual subscriptions which is calculated according to the type of authority and the population served by the authority. Many authorities in our region are in current membership. Please contact us for further details.

  • Access to the member hub area of the SEE website. We have areas dedicated to our SEE councillor representatives, human resources, democratic services, health and safety and education. We are continually adding content to the member hub, including training videos and webinars exclusively for our members.
  • Invitations to HR Surgeries on Zoom held fortnightly. Each session gives HR professionals the opportunity to discuss the latest issues they are facing, impacts of new Government guidance or proposed legislation, raise questions and to discuss challenges with each other in a supportive and confidential forum;
  • Advice and support by email or telephone for anyone in your organisation on HR, scrutiny, reward or councillor development matters;
  • Networking events where we showcase good practice and learning:
  • The Local Democracy and Accountability Network provides an excellent opportunity, led by sector experts, for SEE Councillor Representatives to interact, to discuss and debate new legislation and policy initiatives; 
  • The Strategic HR Board provides Human Resources professionals with an opportunity to develop and network covering topics such as wellbeing, performance related pay and mediation;
  • EdPOG for Education HR professionals which meets monthly during term time, involving the LGA and Department for Education colleagues to share and feedback on latest developments within Education, raise awareness of live issues facing the sector, with a view to influencing decision-making at a national level;
  • Invitations to the South East Health and Safety Network workshop meetings held monthly to share and discuss latest developments, key topics and challenges and to network across the profession
  • Access to new networks including – Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, County & Unitary Strategic HR Network, and Reward and Recognition network.
  • Subsidised subscription to the Organisational Intelligence service, including access to InfiniStats. Infinistats has been the go-to benchmarking tool for all the local authorities in London for over seven years. Alongside a far greater range of job families for pay benchmarking, sit other surveys such as Human Capital Metrics, Gender Pay Gap and Trade Union membership and facilities time, as well as significantly improved reporting functionality enabling fully branded reports, including basic commentary, to be automatically generated with the ability to annotate and add your own comments.
  • Subsidised membership for IT and Cyber Security, our South East Government Warning, Advisory and Reporting Point network (SEGWARP) has developed into a ‘must-belong’ for IT Security Professionals. SEGWARP includes 6 virtual highly informative and participative workshops a year providing; a safe and confidential space to talk and share with peers; access to information and knowledge with expert speakers from government and industry; and timely alerts on cyber threats and incidents direct to your council.
  • Discounted rates for all consultancy and training projects that SEE undertakes on your behalf;
  • Discounted rates on SEE events and events organised by our sister REOs across the UK. 

Also included for County Councils:

South East Charter for Councillor Development  Each County Council will be supported to seek accreditation of the South East Charter or Charter Plus for Councillor Development. There will be no additional costs for a standard assessment process as this is now subsidised by SEE within your membership. 

Chief Executive appraisals SEE will provide councillors with independent professional support to members in preparing and undertaking the annual appraisal meeting of the County Council’s Chief Executive Officer (or equivalent). Should additional support or attendance at interim appraisal meetings (e.g. 6 month review) be required, consultancy charge rates will apply. 

Associate MembershipFor smaller organisations

We have many Parish and Town council associate members, along with blue light and educational organisations. The Associate membership option is perfect for those who need HR advice, investigations or grievances, and training for Councillors and staff.

Written and end-of-telephone advice on:

  • employment legislation (including update circulars for NJC Green and Red handbooks)
  • industrial relations problems
  • health and safety issues

Access to:

  • learning and development advice
  • consultancy services on organisational, employment and employee development
  • a wide range of value for money training events and seminars
  • discounted rates for training and consultancy assignments
