Networks & Surgeries

Networks

Nothing beats meeting up with colleagues from other organisations to share experiences and learn from each other. So we facilitate a number of networking meetings throughout the year so that you can do just that. Existing groups include:

HR Surgery

As a result of COVID19 we started running HR Surgery Zoom sessions for our member councils. Each session gives our HR professionals the opportunity to raise questions and to discuss challenges with each other. These are hugely popular and we are continuing them fortnightly.

Education HR
Members only image using the SEE logo and a padlockAttended regularly by the LGA and Department for Education, members of this group set their own agenda. The main focus is sharing experiences and knowledge to help and support colleagues across the region. Meetings are held in September, January and May with an extraordinary meeting in July if the publication of the draft school teachers’ pay and conditions document raises any specific areas of concern.
Health and Safety

Facilitated by our Sarah, these fortnightly meetings are a chance to catch up with other member council Health and Safety Officers. Chaired by Stuart Mann from Spelthorne Borough Council, the group discuss currently issues and support each other sharing information and solutions.

Health and Safety eBulletin

HSE provides eBulletin services aimed at local government health and safety representatives – whether they belong to a trade union or not. HSE’s aim is to provide a free periodic update of news and information to help reps make their voice heard and contribute effectively to good health and safety outcomes in local authorities.

This eBulletin will be produced as and when there is information or news of specific relevance or which is likely to be useful for representatives working in local authorities.

You can subscribe to the eBulletin here.

Local Democracy and Accountability

The LDA network, led by the Chairman of SEE Councillor Rory Love OBE, is an annual network open to both councillors and officers. It aims to develop knowledge and share good practice in respect of local democracy, local leadership and scrutiny. The network focuses on the key legislation and policy discussions impacting local government.

Key recent themes have included: devolution, local government reorganisation and becoming a councillor, enhancing the diversity of our elected representatives.

The next meeting of the network will be in 2020.

Our annual meeting took place on Wednesday 27 March 2019 where we were joined by various guest speakers, including Minister Rishi Sunak MP and our Chairman Rory Love OBE. Please see our event overview for details and presentations.

SEGWARP for IT security professionals

A Warning, Advisory and Reporting Point (WARP) is a group designed to bring together information security officers from local government. The aim is to provide a one-stop shop for early warning, information sharing and best practice advice around the latest cyber-security threats. The South East Warning, Advisory and Reporting Point (SEGWARP) run by SEE in conjunction with the University of Wolverhampton, is one of a number of WARPs around the country. Find out more about SEGWARP and how to join. You don’t need to be a member of SEE to join the WARP.

Strategic HR Network

Members only image using the SEE logo and a padlock A top level forum for heads of HR in the south east region, this group meets for a full day in London, normally in November. With speakers from a range of backgrounds, the aim is to showcase ‘beacon’ examples of work in our region and beyond, on the key strategic challenges facing our councils. This coupled with an opportunity for catching up over lunch makes for an invaluable day out of the office.

See our review of the Strategic HR Board 2019.

But if you can’t find what you’re looking for here, let us know and we’ll look into setting it up.
